DECADES
Band Members

Chris - Guitar/Vocals
Chris has been involved with music for the better part of the last twenty years.   As a kid he was exposed to the great rock bands of the seventies like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Yes and even Frank Zappa by his uncles, one of which played guitar.  Around the age of 9 Chris started messing around with his uncle's guitar when no one was around and within a year he was playing "Stairway to Heaven" from beginning to end better than most people twice his age.  His Mom who was also a fond music lover realized this natural curiosity and Chris soon had his own guitar.  After one year of formal lessons he was on his own to dive into the musical world.  During high school he joined the jazz band and was forced to develop the improvisational and practical skills to perform in a creative and structured environment.  Throughout high school Chris won several awards as best soloist in several jazz festivals including CSU, USC and the Colorado All State Jazz Band.  It was a scholarship through the Colorado Youth Pops Orchestra that made it apparent that Chris should continue his musical studies.  After an acceptance and scholarship to the Berklee College of Music, Chris was led to Boston where he honed his skills as a performer.  A recent graduate of Berklee, Chris has relocated to the Los Angeles area where he now performs and teaches regularly.

Melissa - Keyboards/Vocals
Melissa began playing piano at the age of 8 studying theory in tandem with mainly classical and pop music.  Very soon her musical tastes turned to Rush, Genesis, Yes and Peter Gabriel as well as many others.  She began performing (by strong insistence by her Mother) in her church as well as at the inevitable piano recitals.  After graduating H.S. she moved on to the University of Massachusettes at Lowell majoring in Music Business with an Emphasis on Performance.  More classical, more theory, more ear training.  To alleviate some of the monotony she played with her first original rock band making a whole $5.00 as an original musician.  She started getting the idea that she couldn't make a living off of the music thing......she needed a change.  Melissa moved on and went into the business end of things working as an accountant for different companies.  Although on a smarter career track, she never did stop playing and would sit down almost every night at the piano to either brush up on her classical or compose a variety of music in a variety of styles.  She soon moved out to L.A., began getting work with local cover bands and the rest is history.  All live keys with no sequencing or programing makes her a rare find.

Daren - Bass Guitar/Vocals
Daren's earliest memories are of listening to The Beatles and Simon & Garfunkle in his parent's home.  There was always music being played at the house such as Neil Diamond, Jim Croce, The Beach Boys and Roger Whitaker.  Later in the 80's he got into the metal scene, but quickly returned to more diverse roots like Jaco Pastorious and Stanley Clarke.  Daren spent his H.S. days listening to Peter Gabriel, Rush, REM, Tom Waits, Chick Corea and Jaco.  After graduating he immediately left Brawley, CA to move to "Hollyweird" and attended the Musician's Institute where he had the priviledge of studying with some of the greatest bass players around including Gary Willis, Jeff Berlin, Putter Smith, Bob Magnusson and Jim Lacefield.  From there it was off to Fullerton Junior College where he joined the Big Bands and Jazz combos under the direction of Jim Linahon, Greg Woll, Ernie Delfante and Tom Hines.  Daren then transferred to the California Institute of the Arts to obtain his BFA in Jazz Studies.  CalArts' diverse environment was nothing but inspiring.  Daren was able to study a little African, Indonesian, Indian, Persian and 20th Century music all under one roof.  Since graduating CalArts, Daren has been busy playing with various groups, freelancing, composing and keeping a steady roster of students.
